Presentation 2: Civic Action -Angelina Thomas

For me, this  second round of class presentations felt completely different from the first. From the moment we started, it was clear that everyone in the room had grown, not just in what we knew, but in how we carried ourselves. People spoke louder, made eye contact, and actually looked like they wanted to be up there. I think the biggest change was confidence. The nerves we all felt the first time were replaced with comfort and a sense of purpose. For our group, that made all the difference. Our project, “Immigration & Families,” was one that really mattered to all of us. It wasn’t just another research topic. We wanted to show how immigration isn’t only about laws and borders, it’s about people, relationships, and resilience. Our group included Angeline Melendi, Brayleen Ruiz, Courtney Bailey, and me, Angelina Thomas. Each of us took a section that connected to a different part of the story: the history of immigration, the challenges immigrant families face, comparisons betwe...

Looking Back: Lessons from Everyone’s Projects What I Learned from Our Class Presentations Hi Mrs. Sherri, and everyone reading!  Now that all the presentations are over, I’ve been thinking a lot about what I learned, not only from my own project but also from listening to everyone else’s. This whole experience helped me see how much research, effort, and emotion went into each topic, and it gave me a better understanding of issues that affect people, families, the environment, etc., in real life. Compared to my very first presentation earlier in the semester, I felt a lot more  comfortable and confident  this time around. When I first presented, I remember being really nervous. I was mostly focused on just getting through it. But this time, I felt way more  in control and relaxed . I think practicing more and knowing my topic well really helped. Instead of worrying about what could go wrong, I actually enjoyed sharing what I learned. It was a big improvement from wh...

My First Public Speaking Presentation Angeline Melendi  My Experience  My role during our first presentation was to present Chapter 3: Ethical Speaking and Listening. I was a bit worried at first since there was a lot to read, but I understood the topic and it become easier. As I prepared to present I tried keeping my part short and engaging as ethics is an important part of communication. By presenting this chapter I learned that public speaking is not only about what I say, but about how and why I say it.  Before presenting I felt quite nervous, I had never presented during an online class and kept thinking about the things that could go wrong. We were also the first group presenting so that added on to the anxious feeling I already had. I enjoyed listening to the other groups present and retaining the information they provided. Their slides included valuable information that could be applied to my everyday life and I'm glad I got the chance to listen! Preparing M...

Facing My First College Presentation- Brayleen Ruiz

Going First: A Memorable Lesson Starting with Nerves My first presentation in this class was honestly a whirlwind of feelings. Being in group one meant that my group had to go first, and that came with a lot of pressure. Not only did I feel nervous, but I also felt a little overwhelmed because this is my first ever college class. I didn’t really know what to expect, and the thought of going first made everything even scarier. I kept thinking about what people might think of me while I was presenting. Would my voice crack? Would I forget what I was supposed to say? All of those thoughts kept running through my mind, making me feel even more tense as the day got closer. What made everything kind of ironic was that the chapter I had to present on was the exact thing I was struggling with at that very moment: public speaking anxiety. At first, I thought it was kind of funny, but then I realized that maybe it was meant to be. As I went through the chapter and really read what it had to say,...

When I look back at our group’s presentation, I feel like we did a really good job with Chapter 1.  Our topics was about how public speaking is both a skill and an art, and each of our chapters connected to that idea in a different way. I started off with Chapter 1, “The Evolving Art of Public Speaking.” I wanted to set the foundation for everything else, so I covered the history and importance of public speaking. I explained how it began in ancient Greece and Rome, with Aristotle’s ideas of ethos, pathos, and logos, and the Five Arts of Public Speaking. I thought this was important to include because even though these ideas are thousands of years old, they still shape how we give speeches today. My favorite part was showing how public speaking has adapted through different eras. The Classical Age, the Middle Ages, the Industrial Age, and now the Digital Age. I think that part really grabbed people’s attention because we could all see how the way people communic...
